Airport Bar Actually Has Great Little Happy Hour, Reports Man With A Serious Problem
PDX International Airport – Elated with his discovery of an establishment that fits seamlessly into both his trip routine and self-destructive lifestyle, traveler Ben Brajcich, who has a serious and debilitating problem, announced Sunday that the wine bar at the Portland airport actually has a great little happy hour.
‘You’d be surprised, but they actually have a pretty good selection of new and old world reds…’ Brajcich shared with other patrons sidled up to the counter bar.
‘And the wines by the glass are only eight or nine bucks! Sometimes, I’ll even come hang out here when I my flight is still hours away,' the visibly inebriated Brajcich said of Capers Wine Bar, where his open tab is on track to eclipse the average $120 he has spent per visit each summer.
‘That guy is blitzed,’ reported onlookers, who confirmed they were unable to take their eyes off Brajcich as he winked at the server while asking for a refill of grenache, assured her he had plenty of time before boarding, and then spilled the remains of his current glass all over the bar top before continuing.
‘The happy hour only lasts from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, but if you stay later, they stretch the prices another half hour or so. Some people grab wine to sip while they wait at the gate, but I like to just sit here and chat with the bartenders, who are decent folks and will wait for your name to be called over the intercom for final boarding before cutting you off. There’s even a guy who plays piano nearby, which is nice because it helps drown out the constant flow of weekend travelers. I brought my friend Chase with me on Thursday after landing, and if you get to come midweek, it’s usually pretty quiet anyway.’
Management at Capers declined to comment at length, citing their legal responsibility not to discuss ongoing public intoxication lawsuits, but did say they hoped that Brajcich was getting the help he needs.
